About
Jessica Hames, Associate Counsel
BA, First Class Honours (SFU), JD (UVic)
With years of experience specializing in civil sexual assault claims, I am dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence across British Columbia. Throughout my career, I have exclusively represented plaintiffs, advocating fiercely for their rights both inside and outside the courtroom. Whether it’s negotiating a resolution or passionately litigating in court, my approach is always centered on the needs and well-being of my clients.

I aim to create a safe and supportive space for survivors by bringing both empathy and legal expertise to each case. I’m trauma-informed and have extensive experience working with individuals who have faced sexual violence. I believe in balancing emotional intelligence with a strategic, analytical approach to achieve the best outcomes for my clients.

Long before becoming a lawyer, advocacy was already at the core of my values. I’ve worked with non-profits providing educational opportunities to women and girls in Afghanistan, led a Girl Guides troop, and organized fundraisers for women’s transition houses. During law school, I served as president of the Women in Law and Poverty Law clubs, driven by my passion for supporting marginalized communities.

I earned a BA in Communications (First Class Honours) from Simon Fraser University and a JD from the University of Victoria, where I was involved in the Law Co-op program and earned several academic awards. Since then, I’ve represented clients in all levels of court in BC and continue to serve survivors of sexual assault across the province.

More About Me

As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I strive to foster inclusivity and understanding in every aspect of my practice. When I’m not advocating for my clients, I love tackling logic puzzles (a passion sparked during my LSAT prep), cooking, karaoke, gardening, and going on bike rides. If I wasn't a lawyer, I’d likely be a therapist or an interior designer—organizing and decorating are my creative outlets, and they reflect my love for bringing order and beauty into the world.
